Cultural Education

  • Our hālau is blessed to be guided culturally and spiritually by Aunty Noe Noe Kekaualua-DeLeon and Uncle Earl DeLeon. Aunty Noe and Uncle Earl are activists in the fight of indigenous people and are practitioners of the Hawaiian culture. They travel to us twice a year to hold cultural workshops with our haumāna (students) where the learn the Foundation of Aloha, protocols, and practices.

  • Every year our haumāna take a Huaka’i (journey) to the ‘aina. Guided by NT Noe and Uncle Earl, our students take on a cultural and spiritual journey, where they visit sacred places, immerse in the culture by learning and practicing protocol, and give back to the land and the people who’s culture we are blessed to learn from. Our students experience places such as Maunakea, Kālopa, Kīlauea, and the magical Waipi’o Valley.

  • Our drumming students have the opportunity to learn and grow under the guidance of award winning drummer and ‘ori dancer Uncle Olin Caban. Uncle Olin is the artistic director of Te Otui Fenua, a dance a drum group in Concord, CA. He is often a house drummer for various ‘ori competitions. He travels to us 2-3 times a year for drumming workshops.

  • One of our biggest goals is to bring our students the opportunities to learn and grow from other sources and experts. We continue in our journey of lifelong learning by continuing to provide further education for our students. Our latest workshop with world renowned dancer Kanani Asuega, and drummer ‘Ofaloto Kumā offers various workshops on ‘ori tahiti and tahitian drumming.
